CBS Concert Band performs music from sci-fi, fantasy, and video games at Sci-Fi on the Rock!

A free performance in the Atrium of the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland.



Also Sprach Zarathustra   arr. Robert Longfield
Also Sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30 (“Thus Spoke Zarathustra”) is a tone poem by Richard Strauss, composed in 1896 and inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche‘s philosophical novel of the same name.
The opening bars – titled “Sunrise” in the composer’s program notes – became particularly well-known after its use in Stanley Kubrick‘s film 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968.
It’s a fanfare that has echoed down the years!



Bounty Hunter   arr. Robert Sheldon
Bounty Hunter“, as performed by Video Games Live, is from 2005’s Advent Rising, the first in a planned trilogy of TPS video games.



Captain America March   arr. Michael Brown
From the 2011 blockbuster film Captain America: The First Avenger, composer Alan Silvestri has created a powerful and memorable march based on the main theme.
We still love you Captain America, but for now it’s Elbows Up!



World of Warcraft   arr. Douglas E. Wagner
Reaching a peak of 12 million subscribers, World of Warcraft became the most popular MMORPG of all time.
Three of the musical highlights from the dramatic soundtrack are presented in this medley: “Wrath of the Lich King
, “Invincible, and “Lion’s Pride.



Baba Yetu   arr. Douglas E. Wagner
Composed for the video game Civilization IV, this song quickly gained popularity outside of the gaming world and won a Grammy Award for the Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists category.

Minecraft   arr. Ralph Ford
Minecraft has become the best-selling video game in history, with over 300 million copies sold. This sandbox game about a world made of blocks is soon coming to life on the big screen in a live-action adaptation starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa.
This medley was compiled from music composed by C418 and released with the Alpha version of the game, including: “Minecraft Main Theme”
, “Mice on Venus” , “Sweden” , “Subwoofer Lullaby” , “Wet Hands” and “Haggstrom” .



Theme from Star Trek   arr. Paul Jennings
The American science fiction media franchise created by Gene Roddenberry began with the eponymous 1960s television series and quickly became a worldwide pop-culture phenomenon. With an estimated $10.7 billion in revenue, it is one of the most recognizable and highest-grossing media franchises of all time.

Batman: Arkham City   arr. Michael Story
From the acclaimed 2011 video game soundtrack, this action-filled arrangement features three prominent, yet contrasting themes – “I Think You Should Do As He Says” , “It’s Not Even Breakfast” , and “Arkham City Main Theme” . Gamers will recognize the vivid and dramatic music, and symphonic sounds from this block-buster action game!



Pokémon Theme   arr. Paul Murtha
Pokémon is the highest-grossing media franchise of all time, with a whopping $88 billion in revenue!
The unforgettable sound of the catchy melody instantly brings back fond memories of the endless fun created by the video characters. Here’s a terrific arrangement of the original theme
that features a driving rock pulse with the unforgettable melody.



Pirates of the Caribbean   arr. John Wasson
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, the 2003 fantasy swashbuckler, is the first in the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. The film score was composed by Klaus Badelt, with Hans Zimmer serving as music producer.
Crews of scurvy pirates, cannon blasts and cursed treasure join forces in this medley of themes from the movie: “The Medallion Calls”
; “The Black Pearl” ; “To The Pirate’s Cave!” ; “One Last Shot” ; and “He’s A Pirate” .



StarCraft II – Legacy of the Void   arr. Michael Story
This stunning musical collage of tunes from the wildly popular military science fiction RTS video game includes “The Stars Our Home” ; “The Fall of Shakuras” ; “Honor Guides Me” ; and “My Life for Aiur” .



Frozen   arr. Stephen Bulla
Do you want to build a snowman?
Frozen, the 2013 computer-animated musical fantasy film from Walt Disney Pictures, was inspired by the 1844 Danish fairy tale “The Snow Queen” by Hans Christian Andersen.
Using segments from the soundtrack, including the popular hit songs, here is a dramatic, exciting medley showcasing the most memorable moments from the movie. Includes: “Frozen Heart
; “Do You Want to Build a Snowman?; “For the First Time in Forever; “Epilogue; and “Let It Go.



The Mandalorian   arr. Paul Murtha
Five years after Return of the Jedi, a gunslinger comes to town in the recent Star Wars phenomenon. The Mandalorian took the internet by storm, thanks to the central duo of Pedro Pascal’s titular bounty hunter and the adorable Child, Grogu, aka Baby Yoda.
One of the most dynamic TV/movie themes to come along lately is the music
from the popular series, composed by Ludwig Göransson.



Super Mario Galaxy   arr. Chris Miller
Hailed as one of the greatest video games of all time, Super Mario Galaxy, the 2007 platform game for the Wii, is the third 3D game in Nintendo‘s Super Mario series.
The theme
featured here is from the Gusty Garden Galaxy area of the game.



Highlights from Harry Potter   arr. Michael Story
The magic of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” is brought to life with this medley from the John Williams composition. Memorable themes include: “Prologue” ; “Hedwig’s Theme” ; “The Quidditch Match” ; “Harry’s Wondrous World” ; and “Leaving Hogwarts” .

The Legend of Zelda   arr. Patrick Glenn Harper
Created in 1986, the celebrated video game series follows Link, an elf-like knight, who fights to save Princess Zelda from the tyrannical demon-warlord Ganon. It has become one of Nintendo‘s most popular franchises, with many entries seen as among the greatest video games ever made.
Nintendo is developing a Legend of Zelda live-action film with Sony Pictures, to be directed by Wes Ball.

Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace   arr. Michael Story
The world had waited years, and finally Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace exploded on the screen in 1999.

Avengers: Endgame   arr. Michael Brown
Movies just don’t get any bigger than this one, and thanks to the talents of Alan Silvestri, it features a film score to match!
This powerful medley blends the familiar Avengers main theme (“Main On End”
) with impressive and dramatic new material (“Totally Fine” ; “Portals” ; “The Real Hero” ).



The Incredibles   arr. Jay Bocook
The 2004 computer-animated superhero film was produced by Pixar Animation Studios, and released by Walt Disney Pictures.
Follow the story of an “incredible” family of crime fighters along with their flashy music written in the campy style of a mid-1960s spy thriller. Includes “The Glory Days
and “The Incredits.
